Glasses Fitting & Everyday Aftercare

Here are questions to ask at a fitting and simple ways to care for your glasses at home. It concerns glasses, not contact-lens cleaning or treatment of an eye condition. Always follow the care instructions for your own lenses, coatings and frames.

At a fitting: describe what you notice

Bring the glasses you wear and explain whether they slip, sit unevenly or feel uncomfortable at the bridge or sides. Ask the shop whether an adjustment is appropriate for that pair and how to handle the frame afterwards. Do not force a frame into position or assume all materials can be adjusted in the same way.

SpecOptics offers frame and lens fitting, adjustments and repairs. A fitting does not replace an eye exam or change your prescription. Discuss vision or prescription questions with your eye-care provider; contact the shop about the physical frame and order.

A gentle cleaning routine

ZEISS's glasses-care guidance recommends lukewarm water, a small amount of pH-neutral washing-up liquid and gentle drying with a microfiber cloth. Follow your product's instructions first, and check that any cleaning product is suitable for its coatings.

Keep the cloth clean. Avoid using a shirt sleeve or tissues to rub the lenses: trapped dirt can scratch them. Cleaning is not a way to remove existing scratches. Ask about the condition of a scratched lens rather than trying to polish it at home. Manufacturer cleaning guidance.

Store them between uses

Use a hard case when the glasses are not being worn. If you put them down outside the case, keep the lenses facing up. Avoid prolonged heat exposure, including a hot car dashboard; ZEISS identifies heat as a risk to frames and lens coatings. Storage guidance.

When to ask the shop about an adjustment

If a frame becomes loose, bent or damaged, keep any detached parts and contact SpecOptics to discuss an assessment. Whether an adjustment or repair is possible, the cost and the expected turnaround depend on the pair. Our repair and adjustment page explains what to ask.
