Specialty Lens Options: Questions to Ask

Lens options should be discussed alongside your current prescription, the selected frame and the way you use your glasses. Ask how an option works with your prescription and whether it is available for your order.
Ask what each option changes
When discussing lens designs, coatings or light-adaptive options, ask what the product does, what its limitations are and how it works with your prescribed lenses and chosen frame. Check the lens details and price before ordering, and ask us which brands and options are available.
Preparing for progressive glasses
Bring your current glasses and describe your previous lens experience: what worked well and what you would like to change. Tell us which daily activities matter most, whether you use a laptop, desktop computer or phone, and what your usual reading or working setup looks like. These details help us discuss the options for your prescription and frame. HOYA’s lens questionnaire gives examples of lens-history, activity and device questions.
The dispenser takes the fitting measurements needed for the chosen lens design and frame. Describe how you normally read and work; leave pupil-distance and fitting-height measurements to the dispenser. ZEISS explains how viewing habits and fitting measurements relate to lens customization. Clinical testing and prescription questions belong with your prescribing provider.

Blue-light claims need caution
A Cochrane review of blue-light-filtering spectacle lenses found that they may not reduce short-term computer-related eye strain compared with lenses without that filter; sleep benefits remained uncertain. Discuss eye strain, headaches or sleep concerns with your eye-care provider.
Distinguish an order question from an eye-care question
SpecOptics fills existing prescriptions and provides frame/lens fitting. We do not diagnose a condition, perform eye exams or alter a prescription. Discuss medical or prescription questions with your eye-care provider. Bring a current prescription when discussing an order with us.
Confirm practical details
Ask which options can be supplied for your prescription, what the quote covers, the expected order timeline and the fitting arrangements. If you hope to reuse an existing frame, check its suitability with the shop first; we’ll need to assess the frame before agreeing to use it.
